Landscape Memory 3

Landscape Memory 3

It’s been very frustrating the last few weeks not being able to take iPhone photos that accurately reflect the subtleties of tone and colour in this sketch. These photos are my best attempt so far out of the hundreds I have taken but my sketch still looks a bit bleached out in areas of the sky. I’m going to have to ask you to try and imagine very subtle light grey greenish blue hues in the sky and along the horizon, and there you have my memories of a very grey Orcadian summer from 2019. We’re normally quite lucky with the weather when we go up to Orkney, but the summer of 2019, for that week at least while we were there, most days were cloaked in grey fog, casting ambiguous shapes across the landscape, blurring all evidence of contemporary society.
